Walter A. Wheal

Walter A. Wheal, 94, of Avon, formerly of Strongsville, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 with his family by his side.
He was born in South Pittsburg, TN and raised in Kittery, Maine before moving to Cleveland, the son of the late John and Beulah (nee Smith) Wheal. Walter was the beloved husband of 63 years to Faye A. (Davis) Wheal, who predeceased him on June 30, 2014; loving father of Brian and Beth (Steve) Taranto; cherished grandfather of Zach and Katy Taranto; dear brother of the late John Allen (Sue) Wheal, Alice Palmer, Doris (Russ) Adams and Dorothy Wheal; adored uncle of many.
Walter is a WWII US Army veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946 in Rhineland and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged with the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Victory Medal.
Walter retired as a warehouse supervisor from American Greetings in 1969 and became an owner/operator of several hotels including the Stardust Motor Lodge in Strongsville. He enjoyed his weekly golf outings with his crew at Emerald Woods and various other courses.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 12PM-2PM at the Westwood Abbey Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, where funeral services will commence at 2PM. Committal services with Military Honors to follow at the Garden Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Faye.
