Shirley Joan Myers (née Moore), age 86, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018. Born in Mansfield, Ohio on December 8, 1931, Shirley was the beloved wife of Sheldon; adored mother of Susan Myers, Sandra Matheny, and Sharon Demby (Robert); loving daughter of the late William Russell and Stella Naomi Moore; dear sister of the late Richard Moore (Phyllis) and William Moore; dear aunt to 7 nieces and nephews.
Shirley loved. She loved her family, she loved God, she loved her friends, she loved life intensely and she lived life fully. She was a devoted wife and mother; a fearless and accomplished cook; a force on the links, on the lanes, and with a rod and reel; and, she relished warm summer mornings in her beautiful gardens.
On their last wedding anniversary, Shirley and Sheldon celebrated 65 years of marriage. Their love lasted a lifetime, and their daughters are the grateful and appreciative beneficiaries of their union.
Shirley loved Cleveland and she loved Ohio. She and Sheldon had a favorite bench in the MetroParks. She loved Lake Erie, she cheered for the Browns and the Tribe, and she passionately supported the Orchestra, the Botanical Gardens and the Arts. Scarlet and gray was dress code for this Buckeye Mom on Football Saturdays.
It was important to Shirley to serve and to provide for others. She was a faithful Christian; an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Westlake, and a contributing member of the P.E.O. sisterhood. Shirley didn’t know a stranger, and her strength of character, kindness, warmth and generosity changed for the better, the lives of those who knew her.
Shirley was known for her compassionate and loving heart, her bright blue eyes, and her beautiful smile. We love her and will carry her memory in our hearts, forever.
Shirley fought a tenacious, 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Despite her hardship, her faith, joy and determination never wavered. Should friends desire, Memorial contributions may be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (CureALZ.org).
Memorial visitation will take place on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 11AM – 12PM in the Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, OH 44070 where memorial service will commence at 12PM.
